The Grouse Creek Yurt resides at 11,200' below the ridge that runs north from La Jarosa Peak. It is a 4 mile ski gaining a thousand feet in elevation from the highway. There are views of the 14er Sierra Blanca across the San Luis Valley from the deck of the Yurt. The ridge behind the yurt offers easily accessible open slope turns. Extended ski tours into the South San Juan Wilderness are available for those wishing to add some adventure to their turns.
In summer, a short 0.3 mile hike/bike gets you into this yurt. The highlands above the yurt offer plentiful wildlife and extended hiking options. A nice hike to the south end of Jarosa Peak gives a close-up view of Trujillo Meadows reservoir from above. Hiking out in the direction of Red Lake goes past numerous small ponds and lots of elk. Extended hiking can access the Continental Divide Trail. Mountain bikers can enjoy the forest roads in the area or the Red Lake trail back towards the highway.
